Easy Baby Beanie Tutorial

Many of you have seen, if you follow me on Instagram, that we have a little one on his way come September! Which somewhat explains my long blogging hiatus, along with a trip to Europe and current student teaching (which is a full time gig fo-sho). But I've had this adorable baby beanie tutorial in the draft stage since I posted the Easy Baby Turban Tutorial and didn't realize I hadn't posted it yet, so what better time than pregnancy/nesting mode time to post!
These beanies are a breeze to whip up (4 seams and a knot). They're light weight, perfect for late spring or early fall. Best of all, you can make 3 or 4 of them with only 1/3 yard of fabric! Win, win, win!

So click through below for the tutorial!

Materials:

  • 1/3 yard of soft jersey knit fabric (mine is girl charlee or try Joann's)
  • matching thread
  • sewing machine or serger
Tutorial:
  • Fold and cut a 6" x 12" pieces of fabric with the stretch going along the 6". If you unfold it, it will be 12 x 12.
  • Cut off about 3" for the band.

  • Cut out a funnel shape from the larger piece, about 4" and then start tapering (depending on the baby's head size).
  • Next, sew up the sides as shown below.

  •  Turn right side in.
  • Sew the short hat band ends together.

  •  Fold the band over so the seam doesn't show.
  • Slip the band over the hat piece and pin all the raw edges into place.

  •  Sew all the way around the hat circumference where the raw edges were pinned.

  • Lastly, tie a knot in the top to desired size and trim excess fabric into a nice petal shape.

Baby Perfection!

  1. Adorable hat and BABY! I have several worn t-shirts with art I like on front and/or back so I might try making the hat with those.
