DIY Skinny Tote

When summer comes around, do you find yourself loving the more casual things in life? Like plain t-shirts, jeans and tennies? For me, my go to outfit is just that, with the simple addition of a tote bag!

Today, I'm sharing my adjustments to this simple tote tutorial and this boxed tote tutorial.

Supplies:

  • 1/2 yard of fabric
  • Matching thread
  • Shoulder straps
Tutorial:
  • Cut your fabric to 40" by 14".
  • Fold in half with right sides together.
  • Sew & serge down the sides, leaving top open
  • Flatten bottom of bag so that the side seams come to the points of triangles (see graphic above or this tutorial).
  • Sew 3" a seam across on both sides, about 2" inward, past the points of the triangles.

  • Fold it right side out, and make sure you're tote is boxed out as you desired.
  • Double fold the top edge down and sew around the bag.
  • Finish by adding straps, sewing them in a box and X shape to hold sturdily in place.

CHEERS! Go enjoy a picnic, the beach, a bike ride or whatever summer activity you dream up!

What are you planning to use a tote for this summer?
