Muppets Most Wanted is available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital HD August 12th at Disney.com.
Fozzie is my personal favorite of all the muppet, but I couldn't forget some of the other greats! Below are ideas for applique pieces for Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo, and Animal. And don't forget to add in that little black mole to Kermit, if you want to be the evil villain "Constantine."
These appliques are very simple to cut out and sew, plus what better medium for creating Muppet Tee's can you think of than felt? So sift through your craft felt scraps, because this is a great afternoon project!
Materials:
- Crafting Felt in Muppet colors
- Plain Tee's
- Coordinating thread
- Sewing Machine
Tutorial:
Step 1: Gather your supplies and decide which Muppet you want on your shirt.
Step 2: Cut out felt pieces. {See each character's pieces below}
^^^Don't forget Fozzie's hat! I forgot brown felt when I took this picture.^^^
Step 3: Place and pin main pieces to tee shirt first.
Step 4: Sew using a short zigzag around the main head and mouth areas.
If you line the felt edge up with the inside of your presser foot, you should get a very close even stitch around the muppet head!
Step 5: When you finish your zigzags, leave tails on the thread.
You don't want the threads to unravel and you don't want a lot of extra back stitching on the front of the shirt, so thread the tails through a needle and send them to the back of the shirt and tie them in a knot. Then you can trim them.
Step 6: Add the smaller face details: eyes and pupils, nose, hats, or hair.
Use the same zigzag stitch, just go slower since you're going to be turning often. Don't forget that pivoting should be done with the needle in the down position!
The black pupils of the eyes just need a little bit of forward and back stitching to keep them secure.
Some pieces (like Fozzie's tongue) can be attached as part of the main head and then further secured with a straight stitch through the center.
Step 7: Washing instructions for you child's new Muppet Tee.
You're all probably thinking what I was thinking: can I wash this in a machine? Because we all know children's clothes is never getting hand wash, am I right? BUT DON'T WORRY, acrylic craft felt is machine washable! Be sure to wash on cold on a more gentle setting, then lay it flat or hang dry it. Now you're good to go!!!
These are so adorable. My favorite picture is of all four of them laid out & together. Super cute! Great way to salvage stained playclothes, too!
ReplyDeleteI think I might do that with some of my sons stained tees, great idea!
